Proč má Janička velrybu brings a very large fantastical element into an ordinary family. Janička's bond with Helenka opens a poetic space for childhood imagination—and the practical question of where an unusual friend might belong.
Proč má Janička velrybu is Milena Durková's poetic children's story about an ordinary family joined one day by an extraordinary friend. Janička is in second grade and can usually manage whatever comes her way. Then she is given a whale named Helenka, bigger than her mother and father put together. She must decide what to do with her new friend and explain her presence to her parents and others. Jitka Ježková narrates this Czech-language audiobook, which has eight chapters and runs for 3 hours and 27 minutes.

What is Proč má Janička velrybu about?
Janička is a second grader from an ordinary family. One day, strange things begin happening in her life, the biggest being the arrival of Helenka the whale. A friend like that is not easy to fit into daily life, literally or figuratively. Janička wonders what to do with Helenka, how her parents will react, and what everyone else will say. The story uses a poetic, imaginative premise to confront its young protagonist with an unusual situation requiring ingenuity. The friendship between girl and whale leaves room for humor, imagination, and a child's view of the adult world.
