Noc na Karlštejně
Author: Jaroslav Vrchlický
1,96 €
In Jaroslav Vrchlický’s comedy, the ban on women entering Karlštejn creates a rule that human feelings resist. Over one night at Charles IV’s castle, the interests of the ruler, his family, and other visitors intersect.
About the book
Queen Alžběta and Alena enter the setting of a strict decree for their own reasons, setting comic complications in motion. Concealment, obstacles, and misunderstandings unsettle an apparently firm order.
The play draws on a legend of the castle being closed to women, which should be distinguished from historical fact. Dialogue and stage situations create a romantic historical comedy that can also be enjoyed as a reading text.
