Povídky malostranské
Author: Jan Neruda
1,16 €
In Neruda's stories, Prague's Malá Strana becomes a distinctive world where people know each other well yet can remain distant. Everyday encounters, small disputes, and settled opinions about neighbors reveal personalities and the force of public judgment. Jan Neruda combines close observation of the setting with humor, irony, and sensitivity to vulnerable individuals. This classic of Czech fiction also suits readers who look for familiar patterns of human behavior in historical settings. The stories reveal different faces of the same urban community.
The stories create a varied picture of the city in the mid-nineteenth century. They focus on daily life and the ways a community judges its members. Detailed characterization allows comic and serious moods to alternate. Readers can enjoy the individual pieces or follow the connections within the broader portrait of Malá Strana.
Relations between neighbors: Closeness and tension within an established urban community.
