Maas connects dangerous assignments with a search for the crown's secrets and questions of trust among those closest to her. This is the second novel in the Skleněný trůn series. The Czech electronic edition from Cooboo has 400 pages, is translated by Ivana Svobodová, and is available in EPUB, PDF, and MOBI.
About the book
Celaena Sardothien serves as the King's Champion. Outwardly she belongs among his servants, but her intentions do not align with loyalty to the crown. The conflict between the role she must perform and her beliefs provides the premise of the second novel.
The cruel ruler expects dangerous work from her. Meanwhile, Celaena seeks answers about his secrets and the evil connected with his power. She cannot act openly: she must consider the suspicions every decision may arouse. Her fighting skills are accompanied by the need to conceal her convictions.
Her relationships with Crown Prince Dorian, Captain of the Guard Chaol, and Princess Nehemia become part of this situation. Closeness alone offers no certainty. Celaena's search affects those around her, and the question of whom she can trust has personal and political consequences.
Půlnoční koruna moves the series from the competition for royal service to living with its consequences. It will appeal to fantasy readers continuing Celaena's story and interested in the tension between obedience, justice, and protecting friends. The novel follows Skleněný trůn; the third volume is Dědička ohně.
