Joachim's family moves to the Åluden farm on Öland despite the superstitions surrounding it. When his wife Katrin is found drowned in mysterious circumstances, their hopes of a fresh start collapse. In Smršť, Johan Theorin combines a crime mystery with a cold island atmosphere and stories of misfortune.
It is a bleak October on Öland. Built from the timbers of a shipwreck, the house has an unsettling history that deepens the family's uncertainty. Katrin's death brings both personal loss and questions about what is happening at the farm. Family relationships add another layer, including Joachim's sister, with whom the family had previously cut contact. The second Öland novel gradually uncovers secrets in a place where the past shapes perceptions of the present.
